When explaining the purchase of an oboe reed, sometimes I use the analogy of purchasing a pizza. They are about the same price. Let’s say you bought a pepperoni pizza, took it home, and added peppers. Then you decided you didn’t like it and wanted to return it to the pizzeria.

That would not be possible.

Do you see the comparison? If a reed is purchased and adjusted with a knife by changing the balance of the scrape, it is like adding peppers to a pizza. It is a different product. So, the policy is if a reed is adjusted after purchase it is not returnable.

I also cannot accept any knives purchased that have been sharpened after receiving them.

Each reed will need to be soaked in warm water to absorb moisture about a minute before playing. This will enable the cane to be brought to the proper playing condition.

Any cane, reed (not adjusted) and non-reed products found not satisfactory are returnable for a full refund for 30 days from date of purchase. Refunds will be made by crediting the account used for purchase.

Reed making is a process of taking a piece of bamboo, splitting it, pre-gouging it, gouging it, shaping it, tying it to a staple and scraping it into a reed. I complete every part of this process for every reed I make.

When a reed is ordered, it goes through this entire process before it is shipped to you. It can be a two week shipping lead time for your order.
